Red Squirrel Week September 2004

To mark National Squirrel Week BSCG is delighted to be able to welcome Dr Mel Tonkin to our district that BSCG is aware is one of great importance to the conservation of red squirrels in Scotland and the UK. Mel will be looking at some of our district's priority priority woodlands for red squirrels. She is to give an illustrated talk on the Conservation of Red Squirrels that will be open to all members of the public. This will be at 7.30pm at Carr-bridge Village Hall. Mel has recently taken up a three year contract as Scottish Squirrel Survey Co-ordinator. Her post involves providing support and information to progress implementation of the red squirrel Biodiversity Action Plan to which the Scottish Strategy for Red Squirrel Conservation contributes. She has undertaken voluntary work on red squirrels for a number of years for the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
