"The Funicular's First Year Is Nothing To Be Proud Of" says BSCG |

Following press statements from Cairngorm Mountain Limited (CML) regarding the "success" of the funicular's first year of operation BSCG has issued the
following Press statement.
CAIRNGORMS MOUNTAIN
LIMITED (CML) NOTHING TO CROW ABOUT IN YEAR ONE A BSCG spokesperson
commented the fact that passengers have had to be rescued, the train has hit the buffers and visitors have been "escaping" from the Ptarmigan reveal problems on the hill in year one. There were more
than average days lost to storms and on over half of the days on which the old chairlift could not have operated because of the weather, the funicular could not operate either. The company failed
to reach their visitor targets in the key months of May June and July. Starting from a desperate financial predicament, these figures are hardly reassuring and certainly nothing to crow about.
Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE) now wants to scrap a commitment that was part of the planning application for the controversial mountain railway. HIE and the Company agreed to this condition when they were seeking permission to build the funicular, yet now that the funicular is operating they want to dodge out of it. Failing to properly care for the landscape by reinstating this track to a path is no way to make Cairn Gorm 'a great place to visit' and we will be urging SNH to object to this latest betrayal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
